Re: Marvin asked me to run a survey...

Marvin asked me to ask all of you a few questions. 1. When you think of Solar Starfire, Ultra Starfire, or whatever version of the strategy rules you have played: what parts of the rules do you consider essential to the strategy rules. What parts of the rules do you feel cannot be left out? Why? I ...

Re: Avorion

Too busy paying Stellaris. Even though there are flaw, as the game gets patches and fixes, it has been lots of fun. And forcing races to all use hyperplanes gives it a starfire feel.

Re: Did Khanate Orions inspire the Kilrathi?

The CoDominium series (Starting with Mote in God's Eye) Anderson points are warp points in all but name.

Re: Thinking about Fighters (FQ)

Certainly it should work with everything from Gunboats on down. There has to be some PP (pseudo-physics) difference between Gunboats and large units which to hang this on. Or let it affect ships but not as much (-1 to I, -2 to J), doesn't affect Jc or Ic at all. Not sure about the other drives. Onl...

Re: Thinking about Fighters (FQ)

The problem with it being a munition instead of it being something part of the fighter itself is that you can only fire the weapon during the combat phase and you don't get the furball effect of the fighter entering the hex with the GB and stopping its movement. Hmmm a good point. I would see that ...

Re: Thinking about Fighters (FQ)

With your definition, I can see where you're coming from. I just can't figure out how to make that definition fit in our pseudo-physics. I'll have to think about how it might be possible... and I'll be honest, as a munition it would fit perfectly with our explanations given ADM and such :) Just as ...

Re: How Important Are SRW To LRW Designs?

But then I tried started with G as my starting SRW weapon (don't do it) because sometimes you have to do odd things. What is bad about starting with G? I have read multiple times it is, but don't get to play so I've never found out why. My experience is that in the early game without having the ene...

Re: Thinking about Fighters (FQ)

If it's small enough to fit into a squadron munition, why wouldn't it fit into a ship-fired warhead? I wasn't thinking this was a fighter munition, it was something built into the fighter itself which is why it has to be in the same hex as the GB it's affecting. It would stop working after the Figh...

Re: Thinking about Fighters (FQ)

The pinning mechanic should be tied to the ability to disrupt the GB's drive field. Something that cannot be done to larger ships but something like Stellaris' FTL snare that slows down or stops GB's. It could be short ranged (requiring the fighter to be in the hex with the GB). It could be an area ...

Re: How Important Are SRW To LRW Designs?

I don't generally put SRW on a LRW ship. DDs at the start are the LRW platform so I keep CTs with SRW and DDs with LRW. Sometimes I roll on the NPR design table if I want to shake it up. But then I tried started with G as my starting SRW weapon (don't do it) because sometimes you have to do odd thin...
