Hex map recommendations for Starfire

Sometimes we have players ask us for suggestions on hex maps that they can use for Starfire. At least until we can find an affordable vendor to recreate the original Starfire System Maps...

I'm going to list any maps that I've found that have worked for me or been recommended by other players. Please send me any other maps that you've found that worked.

1. The original Starfire map for Original Starfire can still be purchased through the Amarillo Design Bureau.

2. This is the "common" Chessex dry-erase vinyl map. They come in tan, white, and black (though not every color is available all the time).

3. A modular hex map system that was recommended by another player. He said that he uses it for running space battles so he can take pieces from the unused side of the map to keep the map rolling ahead of the moving battle(s).

4. Quantities of non-coated maps for players who want to create their own mapping surface. For example, placing these on a table and then bolting down plexiglass on top to create a hex-map table.

5. Recently found this map on Amazon. Although it's for Starfinder, I imagine it would be useful for Starfire. I just ordered this and I will post a review once I try it out.

I hadn't looked at maps for a while and didn't know Paizo had that!
Or I did know and forgot.

Have several of their ground level flip mat maps and am quite pleased with the product.

Paizo also sell most all of their flip mats as printable PDF files in addition to physical maps.
Sometimes the physical is eventually discontinued while the PDF version remains available.

Or if you would rather print it yourself. The the three maps with planets have planets that are way too big for Starfire, but the there is one map in the set that doesn't have any planets...

Interesting. I've printed my share of maps, because I have a 4'x4' piece of plywood that I hook them to and cover with a sheet of plexiglass. Makes for a great map... but it does require having space for it.

ooh, maybe thats what i can do with one of the two fullsized pieces of 3/4 inch plywood I've got.

A while back (1-2 years ago) there was another member and I who were working on a customizable Asymptote script (https://asymptote.sourceforge.io/) that would generate an SVG, PNG (for Vassal) or PDF output suitable for printing of the strategic/tactical map.

@Cralis, do you know what ever happened to posting it? I know we sent it to you and Marvin and don’t recall ever hearing anything back. There are still some additional features that could be added (star field background, additional annotations, etc.) but I stopped work on it after not hearing anything back.

There are still some additional features that could be added (star field background, additional annotations, etc.) but I stopped work on it after not hearing anything back.

Oh, actually we did put it up as available in the downloads section, but the downloads section was damaged by the hackers that attempted to hijack it and we moved the downloads to the forum instead. Not all of the downloads were moved and I've been moving them as the items have been requested.

If you send it to me again (and/or improve it, as you suggest), I'm more than happy to put it in the downloads forum for other players to use.
