Maps! Once and for all...

I am a very bit confused as to which Edition of Starfire uses which version of maps! :?
I also feel rather unpleasant starting again a thread here on maps, but after reading all the recent threads, I want to resolve this enigma for good. I think this is also quite important to new players.

Here are the links to the various maps from said threads: ... mbered.pdf ... size=large ... size=large

Now can we determine, which of these are used with the different editions of Starfire!?
As I understand this is only an issue with 1st, 2nd and 3rd edition, since Galactic, Ultra and Solar Starfire only require the 4-part map from the last link.

The first two links are what came with 1st and 2nd edition. There are various versions of that generic map in black, white, and then TFG had that blue one for a while.

The third link is the custom electronic map being created by Skarn, and posted as a demonstration to the forum just a day or two ago.

The fourth link is the third-edition map set.

And you are correct: Galactic Starfire, Ultra Starfire, and Solar Starfire use only the 4-part map.

The blue map is what shipped with 1E, it's "28x33". Note that it was folded in quarters, and fit inside the same ziplock as the 5.5x8.5 books and countersheets. Note: SF III empires included a folded 51x33 strategic map, with smallish hexes, which was pretty useless for actual use.

The SFB "4230" shipped in 2nd and 3rd editions - note that the one in my 2nd and 3rd were black, modern SFB ones are printed as white on a starfield, while the megahex version is (last I saw) white on black, and the PDF is black on white. I know someone else who got a starfield one in his 3rd ed core. Note that the megahex is shipped as a set of multiple sheets, which combine to be a large 4230. (about 30mm hexes IIRC, vs the standard at 16mm)

The "Mapset" was combined Imperial and 3rd ed core mapsets. The middle one is a 4230.
