Translating Pets Into Starfire

(Blame insomnia)

So, in letting my cats out this morning, I noticed that they almost seemed to be moving in formation, which made me think of the escorting rules, which made me think of my cats being datalinked, and suddenly I was designing my cats as ships. These designs aren't really supposed to be very battle-worthy, nor are they particularly 'cat-like' (there is no tech tree for 'likes his belly rubbed', etc.), but at least each vessel reflects its namesake's size, accurately; Abner is the CA, because he weighs 21 pounds, while Virgil, the DD, weighs in at almost 10. The cat-ships, thusly:

Abner-Class CA (60 HS) 1060 MC
(3) S1x3A1x6HZaQbKe+(IaIa)YaQbKe+Ke>(IaIa)Ke+QbDa(IaIa)?aFca
(IaIa)Fca (4)
S1x3 A1x6 Ke+x3 Ke>x1 Fcax2 (Dax1 ?ax1) (XOb):9[3xKe] Target:-1 Htk:30

Virgil-Class DD (30 HS) 519 MC
(3) S1x3Ax2HZaQa(Ia)Ya(Ia)Qa(Ia)DaKe+?a(Ia)(Ia)Fca (5)
S1x3 Ax2 Ke+x1 Fcax1 (Dax1 ?ax1) (XOb):3[1xKe] Target:-1 Htk:18

Blah. I get that on occasion as well. Perhaps it is the near fugue-like dream state you get in the next day that gives us inspiration? hehe...

Abner...Virgil

HAH! Awesome!

I guess I would have expected cat-like designs to be SRWs. I just don't see cats as a long range weapon. Although I suppose they count if you pick them up and throw them...claws and all...at someone.

Wow. At work I help maintain a handful of legacy Access and Excel apps, but I've never seen a Word App. You are full of surprises today.

It doesn't help that my blood type is Arabica.

I thought at first to give them both four Ep each, to represent claws, and also Ti, to represent *every* cats' ability to pull at things and push things off of other things.

I haven't had access to my Mac in a few days, which is where I have Excel. Not that I know how to create spreadsheets with it. The Word 97 thing I made a few days ago was my first. It won't even auto-update the fields as I change values; it's differently-abled, but the printouts it makes are awesome! They look like invoices one might find in a box of Chinese fireworks. Oh, and I purchased Solar last night, and upon looking at it, I have to say so far, I like what you (and the others) have done with the place. . .

Judging by weight, our two cats are considerably smaller ‘vessels’.

So respectfully (or maybe not) here they are.

Josie Kitty (Elite) CTb (19HS)
[2] S1 S1 S1 A1 A1 A1 Za Tb (Ib) Yb (Ib) Db Qb (Ib) Fe [6]

Daisy Kitty (Elite) CTf (16HS)
[2] S1 S1 A1 Za Hs (ia Ia) Yb (Ia) Tb Qa (Ia) Fe [7]

Neither would tip the scales at 6 pounds, although Josie is a slight bit larger than Daisy.
Both are excellent farm cats though, and bring several mice to the porch each day to play with/munch on – so I give them a slight edge in grade.

I give them Yb as they are easily able to spot things in the grass I have no idea are there, and play with them for hours even if I can’t see anything.

The Za is up to debate. They always seem to come back together with mice, but otherwise seem to take no notice of each other.

I refuse to give them any form of ? though. For their great skill as hunters, they never seem to be able to escape the 8 y/o when she wants to pet one of them – whether they are interested or not.
...and I will show you fear in a handful of dust....

I see that Joise Kitty is equipped with (Ib) and that Daisy Kitty is equipped with (Ia).
Why the two different engine generations?

'My' last pet was a Hamster named Arthur. He made a habit of chewing thru the habitrail plastic tubes and giving us a good chase every 2 or 3 weeks. He was never as fast as the previous Hamsters we owned and that shows in the design. To see him pack away the food pellets and then dis-gorge them at his favorite storage area is why I made him into a military freighter design. His rodent front teeth could gnaw at flesh as well as everything else so I gave him a nice Laser weapon.

Arthur Class EXi (10HS)
[2] S2 S2 A2 H Hb H Qa (iaIa) Li [4]

with time (many months later and just before we found him dead in the furnace's air filter) I would have modified him slightly ...

Arthur(2) Class EXi (10HS)
[2] S2 S2 A2 (Stb) H Hb H Qa (Ia) Li [3]

I suppose someone will need to have a Spitting (Llama, Camel, Cobra) or Throwing (Monkey ?) or Long Tongue (Frog, Chameleon) to get a LRW on their pet, eh ?

[Edit] I gave him higher tech because his Habitrail cage was so much higher tech than the metal cages my friends had for their hamsters and gerbils. (EXi is SL13, most of other items ar SL10 or SL8). But that was back in 1978.

Hmm, I guess bird would have a long ranged weapon; more of a Bombardment attack but ... :o

Just service to house rules for the most part.

We have used the old EC rules that a gen hull using equal gen engines has the standard TM and SPD, instead of trying to figure in the mods for engine gen and hull gen. A hull with lower gen engines loses one point of max speed for each gen lower the engine is than the hull, but retains the same TM. Higher gen engines than the hull add one MP per gen higher than the hull with the same TM increase. So if you want a 'b' hull with standard TM and SPD, you use 'b' engines.

Josie is about normal for a kitty in speed while slightly larger than Daisy so 'b' hull and engines, Daisy if pretty fast so I made her a 'f' hull, but about normal size for us in the farm cat line- so standard size and engines for Daisy.

Dog, by the way. Loves chasing cats, squirrels, and birds, but the look on his face when he actually gets something and it doesn't stay still is priceless.

Captain Tagon: It it wrong for me to think that would be pretty cool to watch?

Ok, I have to admit the genius behind this "pet" design. Can see, trap, and examine anything...but has no real weapons. Soooo much like a few dogs I've known.
