It sounds really weird at first, but there is, apparently, a valid reason to make glowing kittens. Scientists are studying feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV), which causes AIDS in cats. The gene that causes the glow is used to track the transfer of a gene that combats FIV.

Neat concept. Wait until it gets out of the lab and into the hands of breeders. Kids will want glowing kittens as Halloween presents.

No doubt about it!

It will also be useful to spot them when they are hiding under the bed. ;)

kids, hell... *I* wouldn't mind a glow-in-the-dark cat. Harder to trip over.

They also make a nice flashlight if the power goes out. Just hold it at arms length to find your way around.

Easier to spot, yes, but they will still decide to weave in front of your feet when you are walking along carrying something in your arms so as to maximize the trip hazard. ;)
