Nebulas could be the transition points between dimensions.

I'd think that neutron stars and pulsars (really pretty much the same thing) would be better. The intense gravimetric fields might do odd things to worm holes (aka WP's).

On the down side, they're rather rare which might be a problem for the overall campaign's storyline ... unless they were made more common for the purposes of this interesting campaign idea.

Would explain some of the oddities in nebulas.

I could see something similar to the dimensional interphase from Star Trek.

This is what I have for my tentative baseline 'SOL' solar system. Please forgive me for doing it with my own SysGen. If you read my 'Three Empires' threads you'll be able find my mass table, otherwise most of the 'SOL' system directly translates to SOLAR. "Ummm ... except mR which can be any moon that orbits a planet with a significant Radiation belt(s) and travels in or thru it regularly enough that the surface is radioactively untenable to life as we know it. Ganymede is borderline to some single celled organisms; but again, as for multi-cellular life "as we know it" ;) , it is still very deadly. That is why I ruled it a Type mR world.

I could have given Titan a special status like Procyon did and I looked long and hard at Titan when creating this list. I finally just didn't add a Type mT Mass 0 world to my already enlarged tables but it truly is a unique little orb.

All of Saturn's moons could easily be considered type mF including Rhea and Titan; and heck, so could Callisto but I didn't have the heart to switch away from mB in the Gas Giant Zone fully, not in this version at least.

Orbital 1 - Mercury - 3.2 LM - Type H - Mass 1
Orbital 2 - Venus - 6.0 LM - Type V - Mass 3
Orbital 3 - Earth - 8.3 LM - Type T - Mass 3
- - Moon 3-1 - Luna - 5 tH - mB - Mass 0
Orbital 4 - Mars - 12.2 LM - Type B - Mass 2
Orbital 5 - Asteroid Belt (17.3 LM to 32.8 LM) - AB-N - Mass N/A
- - Planetoid 5-1 - Ceres - 23.0 LM - Type mB - Mass 0
Orbital 6 - Jupiter - 43.2 LM - Type G - Mass 7
- - Moon 6-1 - Io - 6 tH - Type mR - Mass 0
- - Moon 6-2 - Europa - 9 tH - Type mR - Mass 0
- - Moon 6-3 - Ganymede - 14 tH - Type mR - Mass 0
- - Moon 6-4 - Callisto - 25 tH - Type mB - Mass 0
Orbital 7 - Saturn - 79.4 LM - Type G - Mass 6
- - Moon 7-1 - Dione - 5 tH - Type mF - Mass 0
- - Moon 7-2 - Rhea - 7 tH - mB - Mass 0
- - Moon 7-3 - Titan - 16 tH - Type mB - Mass 0
- - Moon 7-4 - Iapetus - 47 tH - Type mF - Mass 0
Orbital 8 - Uranus - 159.5 LM - Type I - Mass 5
- - Moon 8-1 - Ariel - 2 tH - Type mF - Mass 0
- - Moon 8-2 - Umbriel - 4 tH - Type mF - Mass 0
- - Moon 8-3 - Titania - 6 tH - Type mF - Mass 0
- - Moon 8-4 - Oberon - 8 tH - Type mF - Mass 0
Orbital 9 - Neptune - 250.2 LM - Type I - Mass 5
- - Moon 9-1 - Triton - 5 tH - Type mF - Mass 0
Orbital 10 - TNO 1: Pluto - 328.5 LM - Type mF - Mass 0
- - Moon 10-1 - Charon - 1 tH - Type mF - Mass0
Orbital 11 - TNO 2: Haumea - 358.4 LM - Type mF - Mass 0
Orbital 12 - TNO 3: Quaoar - 360.7 LM - Type mF - Mass 0
Orbital 13 - TNO 4: Makemake - 380.6 LM - Type mF - Mass 0
Orbital 14 - TNO 5: Sedna - 432.0 LM - Type mF - Mass 0
Orbital 15 - TNO 6: Eris - 562.2 LM - Type mF - Mass 0

Note: Using TNOs in the VandSysGen is optional: I didn't use them in the 'Three Empires' campaign but plan on using then in the "Multi-Earth-iverse" campaign, I couldn't leave out Pluto, could I, heheheee.

I'd flip Sedna and Eris. Sedna has a far greater orbital period, even though Eris currently is farther out.

Hi

I agree with Alexei about Sedna - its average distance from Sol is something like 10 times the distance you've got. At aphelion (using the figures given in Wikipedia), it would take a speed-4 freighter about 6 months to reach Sedna. (Distance is given as 1.402 exp14 m, which works out at just under 7800 LM.)

On second thoughts - you can probably play it either way. With a period of 12500 years or so, it will take a while to get out from perihelion to aphelion. Even so, given its average distance, I'd still go with having it further out than Eris.

I'm lucky. This is just the baseline "SOL" system, even in the 'relatively same' SOL systems some of the TNO orbitals could be different, perhaps even missing or replaced. If you look at all the planets and TNO, you'll see I am using the average distance to the sun and not the distance they are currently are at. The planets will probably be in the same orbitals (within a tenth of a LM at least) but their starting bearing may be a bit different for each SOL system. One might even have Pluto inside the Neptune orbital for the duration of the game. Most will have the same WP Type and size, but not all, Mwa-haa-haaa!

If I was playing with veterans who'd agree to it, I'd use actual distances and not StMP based movement, but to do that I'd absolutely have to play in a "Frozen Universe" where the planets wouldn't move from their starting positions because, well to constantly have to compute distances to get distances to other planets and WP is a LOT to ask of even veteran players (and myself in checking their work). My local players are definitely very, very new to the Strategic Game so we'll go with Fast and easy which also happens to still be Good as well. The kids and I can live comfortably with Fast, easy and Good. Some year I will give 'actual distance travelling' and the realism it brings a try, but not in 2013-14.
