Thank you!
The Sept 3 rematch looms. I can't wait to see if I can maneuver the CAs at a distance of >10 or so to allow my Rs to tear him up while he can't get in one hit. That's my goal. No hits. I'm bringing point defense!

Keep us posted. Loving the story !

Ok. Now you sound like my wife.
The kids started calling her the missile queen a long time ago because of statements like that. Problem is, she can generally pull them off. She likes to hang in that very last hex or two of range and just slowly wear down a target.
With R, she is a very tough opponent.

Those pesky Rat CTs

(including the ES1 counter I used... the Rat commander and I role-played it was an escort with some more weapons welded on and a shield generator strapped to the side with duct tape. Admiral Rat mentioned it didn't have a corvette logo so I told him to send a rating outside with paint and a stencil and fix the problem.)

ahem. Those pesky Rat CTs were highly maneuverable. Even as I stalled movement, he closed. He took out the data link and a crews' quarters in CA1 and gave shield damage to CA2. I missed the "no hits" goal by quite a few hits. He definitely got into my blind spot. The ships were two hexes apart for datalink purposes and that is too close for the Thatch Weave to be effective. Interesting.

Of course, I took my heavy cruisers to his Rat colony and bombarded his world from orbit. The scrappy CTs were unable to overcome.

Next time to play is 17 Sept. We'll play scenario 2 again, but with custom-designed ships. That's in prep for the Warp Point Entry scenario on 24 Sept / 1 Oct. We agreed to play it in two parts because it's so big.

Perhaps try a Lufbery Circle instead?

That's about how it ended up. The Iguanas couldn't open up the range because the Rat ships had great legs. The Iguanas went in a circle instead.

I wonder what other 2D tactics from dogfighting will be useful.

The wagonwheel works pretty good too. Just put your ships in the same hex (or adjacent hexes) back to back each pointing in different directions and the enemy will only be behind one of them. The rest can blast him.

Also if he's following you, just stop and do a Hard Turn. It doesn't matter if he moves into the same tH as you, you do the turn and he's not behind you any more. The only problem with the Hard Turn is that you stop.

Right on. I did that with CA1. It's how those Rats got so many good hits on it-- they scurried into range 1/2 and slammed forcebeams into our tongues! ;)

Awesome game report !

My players tend to favor the hard turn tactic, although my wife will hold the range open as long as possible before resorting to this.

Best of luck with the next match.

The Rat Admiral and Iguana Admirals went to the Naval Architects of their fleets with ideas. They redesigned their ships in advance of the next battle. I mounted as many Ls as I could get on my DD/CT hulls.

I pushed my crew's quarters to the front, like armor. "Nobody's going to be sleeping while they are at battle stations." :)

Since there are no costs, I think we'll need to re-implement the "loss of bridge" penalty. That is, if you lose your last Q then all future rolls are -1 for that ship.
