Whoa, I did not know it has been around that long,
Despite being around for the better part of 40 years, 3D printing is still a relatively new technology that ...
Screw the rivets, I build models for atmosphere, not detail

Early forms of 3D printing weren't very good. Poor quality and durability. And the printers were incredibly expensive. I know my uncle started messing with it in the late 90's (he does robotics and remote control vehicles), but didn't find it useful for his work until about 10 years ago when the costs came way down and the material quality improved.
